Circleville National Scrapbooking Day Event - When the #1 Fan is a Man

Welcome to my little piece of the Circleville National Scrapbooking Day Event. It's a two-day event packed full of tutorials, tips, and maybe even a few treats. The event was organized by Sis, Sara, and Nadia on the Cricut Circle messageboard. Several messageboard members volunteered to take a time slot and share their creations and tutorials over the weekend. We'd love to see what you create if you are inspired by one of these posts. If you do create something inspired by this tutorial, please let me know. I'd love to see it.

My contribution to the weekend events is titled "When The #1 Fan is a Man". I made a masculine, wallet-style brag book to hold some cut-down 4" x 6" photos. My son plays Babe Ruth baseball and his dad helps coach. This is a nice way for Justin's dad to keep a collection of the season's best memories at his desk for when he's able to corner someone long enough to brag about Justin's baseball skills.

I used a tutorial I found on youtube to create my brag book. It's made with 2 pieces of 12" x 12" cardstock. The tutorial is very easy to follow. I created the following brag book in the same orientation she shows in the tutorial - which is truly a wallet-style. I also created another book a vertical orientation. I will post that one a little later.

On to my contribution. There are several pictures that try to capture how it opens and unfolds, so this post is picture heavy. After you watch the tutorial, what you are looking at may make more sense.

Here's the outside when it's all folded up. I made a little belly band using magnets to hold the book closed, but you could omit this step if you want yours to be more wallet-like.

Here is a picture without the belly band. It stays closed nicely without it.

This is what you see when you lift the top flap. The strip under "Play Ball" serves as a pocket to hold various cards and tags that you could add photos to or journal on. "Play Ball" was cut using my Cricut Explore and the Baseball cartridge.

Here's a close up of that pocket feature with a tag pulled out.

This is a view of the inside when you open the bottom flap. There are two flaps in the middle that have pockets to hold tags. They also flip out again to provide large spaces for cut-down 4" x 6" photographs. The flap at the very bottom flips up to provide another surface for your photos. I cut the shirt and the cleat with my Cricut Explore, using the Explore's writing feature to put my son's name and number on the back of the baseball jersey.

Here is a close up of the middle section. This section consist of two flaps that fold in on each other, which each have pockets for tags.

This is a close up of that bottom flap. The first photo is the flap in closed position. You will trim of the bottom portion of the flap off during construction, so that the paper underneath peeks out. I love this feature.

And here's the flap flipped open with another adorable cut from Create a Friend that was cut on the Explore.

The next photo shows how the middle flaps flips to the side to open. Only one flap is opened here to show you there are two storage pocket for tags in the middle section. One on the top and one on the bottom. And a large mat for the placement of a cut-down 4" x 6" photograph on the back of each of the pocket pages.

This photo shows both side flaps opened. There is another large mat for a photo in the center section as well as on both side flaps.

This photo shows that the flaps also extend one more time, providing even more mat space for your photos.

This final photo shows the entire wallet turned over. The large square in the center is the back of the wallet. The side flaps with the pockets and tags fold in and then then everything folds down into a compact piece that really is no thicker in profile than a wallet. It's a bit difficult to figure out how everything folds and lays by the photos, but once you watch the tutorial, it will all make sense.....she says, hopefully.

I really hope that you like this project. I thought this would make a great Father's Day gift. Sometimes those masculine projects give me the most stress.
